Supsan, a Borusan Group company, has achieved significant gains in the fields of resource savings, reduction of environmental impact, and production efficiency with its "Die Lifespan Extension and Recovery Project", which is aimed at making the valve dies used in production more durable and re-utilizing them. Within scope of the project, a reduction of 5.3 tons of carbon emission has been achieved.
Celebrating its 55th anniversary this year, Supsan contributes strongly to sustainability through its "Die Lifespan Extension and Recovery Project," developed to increase resource efficiency and reduce environmental impacts in production processes. The project that has been implemented in line with Borusan Holding's "i3" strategy which is shaped by climate, people, and innovation, extends the lifespan of the valve dies that are utilized in production while ensuring that the dies which are no longer in use are reprocessed and reintroduced into production.
Within the scope of the three-phase project, primarily, the lifespan of the dies has been increased by utilizing a more durable material and an optimized heat treatment recipe. Then, upper dies that had completed their lifespan were reprocessed and reintroduced into production. And in the final phase, the most commonly used lower dies were redesigned with a reference-based system and transformed within themselves. As a result of this process, a reuse rate of over 50% has been achieved for both upper and lower dies.
In just the last quarter of 2024, 119 upper dies and 84 lower dies were recovered. While this transformation has led to a significant reduction in the need for new die production, a notable decrease in energy and raw material consumption was also achieved. Moreover, with the shortening of die replacement times, production efficiency has increased, and carbon emissions have been reduced.
All processes have been executed in an integrated manner within the ERP system; and planning, quality control, heat treatment, and partnerships with external suppliers have been managed. Through this project, Supsan not only generated economic value but also implemented a pioneering application which makes sustainability and circular business models permanent in production processes.
